WEEKEND SHOP / FIELD NOTES
Make room for a few good reps
A focused practice setup starts with space and a simple goal.
Start with your space
Walk the area before bringing out equipment. Consider people, pets, windows, neighboring property and where a missed ball could go. A net is a tool, not a guarantee that a hard baseball stays contained. Follow instructions and keep bystanders out of the hitting area.
If hard-ball hitting is unsuitable, ask the coach about an appropriate drill and ball type. Do not put unfamiliar training balls into a machine or tee-ball setup without checking compatibility. Supervise young players and practice within their abilities.
Pick one skill
A tee, target and small ball supply can make a focused session repeatable. Choose a goal with the coach, such as consistent setup or controlled ground balls. Keep instruction simple enough that the player understands what to try next.
Secure equipment as directed and check for wear. Before a swing, make sure everyone else is well clear. Never share a station in a way that places someone beside the barrel or behind an unsecured target.
Leave it ready
Collect balls before mowing or leaving the area. Dry equipment, inspect the tee top and net, and store as instructed. A short session that ends with the player willing to return is useful; more equipment does not automatically improve practice.
